I've seen their research drop from Kinsey's estimated 10% all the way down to 1%, what is actually true? I don't know. But it doesn't matter. We are a part of the human spectrum and should be treated with the same dignity and respect regardless of how large or small our population may actually be. People with Lou Gherig's Disease aren't restricted from all of the same rights and protections afforded those without...why should we?

No, I'm not equating disease to being gay...I'm just saying that something that is part of who we are, unchangeable, uncurable and always there and science says probably born with. Stephen Hawkings is just as smart as he was before he started showing symptoms and he's still the same person on the inside. He makes good on the card he was dealt as should all of us. But, his rights were not restricted by this. Our rights are restricted by who we are and aren't attracted to, the same-sex card, and that is the true sin.

Would it matter if gays were 1 in a 1,000 or even 1 in 10,000?

Somewhere in there is the range for transsexuals. Does a smaller group have fewer or lesser rights?

There is a grave danger is hanging onto flawed numbers because it opens a group up to having its rights attacked merely by attacked the numbers. Kinsey's methods were unsound and his figures easily attacked. However, he did raise important issues. Most of the figures I have seen say 1% to 2% of the population is gay, although many more have experimented and so might be bi - or maybe were curious, or something.

It is much more profitable for everyone (GLB, trans, intersex, black, white, disabled, gifted, whatever) to concentrate on rights of individuals and the important idea that rights should not be contingent upon some personal attribute that is an intrinsic part of ourselves.
