You can’t handle the truth! Lou Sheldon will lie to you instead!
A big hand to Jeremy at Good As You for the hat tip on this one.
Old Lou-ser Sheldon of the Traditional Values Coalition created a really interesting video in which he makes the standard set of lies about the pending hate crimes legislation in Congress. Specifically, H.R. 1592, the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007. But then he throws an easily fact checkable lie out there to further bait his audience into frantically calling their Reps and Senators to squash this bill Immediately.
Surf on over to Jeremy’s Pad to view the video for yourselves. Careful, it’s a doozy!
After the fold read the letter I sent to Lou. I’ll be sure to post a response should I get one!
RSS 12. April 2007 (14:41)Mr. Sheldon,I watched your video on GodTube and I have to say that was impressive! Homosexuals, Drag Queens, and Cross-Dressers, Oh My! I mean to be able to look your supporters right in the eye and lie right to their faces. I think there’s scripture about that somewhere. Anyways, the part I’m referring to more specifically is the part about the cirriculum you describe as “linking Pentacostals and Baptists to white supremacy groups.” Why did you feel the need to so boldy misrepresent the information? Because you know that your followers will beleive you unquestioningly without checking for themselves?I looked up the part that you spoke of, and it’s on page 72. It’s the only place where “Baptist” or “Pentacostal” is mentioned. Hey, and guess what?! It’s not the cirriculum, it’s a former white supremacist telling a story of his own personal experience growing up and how he decided from the story of Creation in Genesis that there were two creations, one for blacks and one for whites. Nothing more nothing less. I encourage and emplore you to put a link to the text on your website, you know, in full disclosure. In fact, I’ll even give you the URL. http://www.ncjrs.org/pdffiles1/165479.pdfNow moving on to the other lies that you stated. The Bill that you keep referencing as the “so-called hate-crimes bill” that will supposedly lay the foundation for pastors, priests, and regular folk to be persecuted, investigated, and prosecuted for standing up for their “moral convictions based on Biblical Truth,” actuallly only adds sexual orientation and gender identity to the EXISTING hate crimes legislation that protects race, creed, national origin, RELIGION, age, and gender. Your right to continue to preach your message demonizing a sizeable portion of the population will remain in-tact. It’s when you turn that thought or speech into ACTION and specifically target people based on whatever bias you have against them. Those people who turn their bias or beleif into action and beat someone, or kill someone, or vandalize someone’s home because of their real or percieved difference will be persecuted, investigated, and prosectued for that action. The hate crimes legislation will make it impossible for local law enforcement to turn a blind eye to attacks on LGBT persons because of the personal bias or beleifs of the officers. Is that what you’re afraid of? Are you afraid that the rhetoric that comes from the religious organizations that might inspire someone to commit an act of violence or vandalism against another person will have to be prosecuted? Are you afraid that maybe the numbers of crimes committed against people because of their real or percieved homosexuality will drop? My goodness, what a sad twisted situation you want to further. The next lie is that teachers will be forced to teach that “homosexuality is okay and something to be desired” is completely off base. What teachers will teach and should teach, is that beleive it or not, people exist who happen to love someone of the same gender the same way as most of their mommies and daddies do eachother. These people are not something to be afraid of, or to treat any differently than they treat eachother. That’s it! If parents want to stick their fingers firmly in their children’s ears and scream Leviticus 18:22 as loudly as possible (figuratively speaking of course) at home they are and will be completely allowed to. Hopefully they’ll be consistent and condemn eating shell fish, trimming their beards, and wearing polyester pants with cotton underwear with wool socks, working at WalMart on Sundays and putting butter on their mashed potatos with their steak dinner (Are you getting hungry? because I sure am.), you know ‘cuz those are all abominable and detestable in the eyes of the Lord.Anyways, I hope you take some of this into consideration and try to become more Christ-like in your endeavors to be a true Christian and spread the Word of God and the teachings of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Take care, and I really look forward to hearing from you.Sincerely,Daimeon Pilcher
